“What does it mean to be “Prestige” Consumer-Centric?”
JuE Wong, the CEO of StriVectin Operating Company, offered incredible insights in her BBR12 Keynote address.
Prior to joining StriVectin, Ms. Wong was CEO of Astral Health & Beauty where she achieved meaningful growth through product innovations and expansion of global distribution under her leadership. Prior to Astral, Ms. Wong has held senior leadership positions at Murad, N.V. Perricone, and ZO Skin Health by Dr. Obagi, all of which achieved exceptional growth during her tenure. Originally from Singapore, she is an Honors graduate of The Australian National University and was an exchange scholar at UCLA.
Ms. Wong has documented successes in helping emerging and middle-market brands get to the next level, as well as globalizing established brands. In 2004, she was a Wall Street Journal nominee for the prestigious publication’s “Top 50 Women to Watch.” More recently she was recognized by The Little Pink Book as one of the “Top 10 Women in Business” and was an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 finalist.
Please share 3 key points from your Roundtable discussion, “What does it mean to be “Prestige” Consumer-Centric?”
1) How can your business be disruptive for yourselves or your clients?
2) How do we market to Baby Boomers?
3) How are we Authentic as a brand and how do we help our company in the roles we play?
What do beauty professionals need to do to continue to connect with today’s beauty consumer?
They need to look at talent outside of the beauty industry as it continues to lag in technology, fresh ideas and strategy that lead to exponential growth.
What do you see as the latest trends in your industry?
Devices that works on the muscles of the skin since that is the architecture of the face. No amount of products, light therapy and surgery will address weak muscles. We must keep our facial contours firm and toned, in the same way we have to exercise to tone our bodies and not just rely on diet alone.
What attributes make a great leader? Tell us about your leadership style.
Providing the latitude to allow your people and teams to be successful but always be there to catch them should they fall.
Losing her husband of more than 20 years to an unexpected massive heart attack, just three weeks after relocating and assuming the CEO role at Astral, re-shaped Ms. Wong’s view of her personal and professional life. She now serves on the Board of the American Heart Association to raise the awareness of preventing heart diseases. She chaired the 2011 annual Go-Red Luncheon for Women in Atlanta raising more than $300,000 for the cause of addressing heart diseases. She also previously served on the boards of the Atlanta Chapter of the YMCA and the Who’s Who in the Asian American Communities.
