Behind every beauty executive is an incredible mother who likes to give beauty advice.

Here’s the best we heard growing up!

"It’s simple: good sleep & exercise are key to looking and feeling Beautiful."

“It’s simple: good sleep & exercise are key to looking and feeling beautiful.”

Jennifer Parks, Senior VP of Sexy Hair:“I am so lucky to be surrounded by incredible women. My very glamorous Grandmother taught me to wash your face every night and to make sure your shoes and handbag look polished. Everything else will work out. She was right! Another gem comes from my Aunt Loanna whose advice is to always use your facial moisturizer on your ears for anti-aging!”

Guy Langer, President of Beauty Industry West (BIW)“My mom advised me about protecting my skin from the sun, which is the major extrinsic source of aging. Use your FULL SPECTRUM sunscreen and don’t be frugal in the amount you use!”

"My mom always championed the idea that “you never get a second chance to make a first impression.” Always look neat and put together. Firm handshake and look people in the eye and smile when you meet them. When they ask your name, say it with confidence. That advice has always stuck with me and I continue to practice it to this day."

Lauren Breese, New Product Development at OPI Products, Inc.: “My mom taught me the importance of always looking your best. Even today at 88, she has a routine of creating a pulled-together look for the day, putting on makeup and fixing her hair. I always admired her nails. She has worn them femininely ovaled her entire life. Her nail routine includes OPI Nail Envy as a base coat to prevent breaks, and timeless Kyoto Pearl OPI Nail Lacquer!”

Eleanor Keare, President of Circle of Friends: “The best beauty advice my mom gave me was to get a good night’s sleep! I wish I followed her advice more regularly. When I do, my skin definitely looks brighter and more youthful.”

"My mother will not walk out of the house without make-up. She has a very regimented beauty ritual that affords her to look 50 than 7 1 years young! Exfoliation, Arinca are her wonder-twin super stars. She swears by the old school, Brillo-like buffing pads.

Exfoliation using Brillo-like buffing pads, and Arinca ointment are her wonder-twin super stars. She educated me on the effects of proper daily exfoliation, and that the special homeopathic ointment made from “youth flower” helps repair skin challenges.”

Abby Penning, Associate Editor of GCI Magazine: “One thing my mom always told me was to highlight what you’ve got, and I got my blue eyes from her, so I am hardly ever without mascara.”

“My mom was a runner up for Miss Teen Mexico back in the 60’s, so she was taught at an early age how to accentuate her beauty. Her beauty advice is all about the eyes. Make sure to use a hydrating and firming eye cream to help keep that delicate area around the eyes moist and plump. And remember that a woman’s outer beauty permeates into her inner loveliness.”

Kate Scherer, Co-Founder & Creative Director of Product 360: “My mom was all about natural beauty and not covering up who you are. She encouraged me not to cover up my freckles, but embrace what made me unique. From her I learned all you need are the basics, a good mascara, a touch of tinted lip balm and you’re good to go.”

Don Frey (Principal Consultant at Frey Consulting & VP of Beauty Industry West) pictured in his dashing cardigan (top right) says his mother (bottom left) there were three boys in my family so not much talk about beauty. Also, money was pretty scarce so Mom didn't get much money to spend on beauty products. I do remember Mom religiously applying Jergen's Lotion on her skin. Every once in a while I smell a fragrance that reminds me of Jergen's and therefore my mom. And Pond's Cold Cream at night. Also, I grew up in the 60's, so Mom did her hair up every night. Curlers to bed on the nights she washed her hair, bobby pins and toilet paper to "keep the set" the other nights. Mom had three sisters so when we would visit it was always a bit of a production with each of them wrapping their 'do up in toilet paper.

Jennifer Mathews, President of Top Tier Media, Editor-in-Chief of My Beauty Bunny: “My mom’s best advice was to not over-pluck my eyebrows. I didn’t listen, and my mom and sister had to have a friendly “brow intervention” with me.”

"Always use sunscreen on your face, especially when you go to the beach/pool. Should you forget, use extra amounts of nighttime rejuvenating, age defining repair cream when you go to bed. Then follow up with an exfoliation facial after the sunburn heals. And remember ladies - Always keep a big smile on your face. That really is the secret to beauty."

Alice Kim, President of Elizabeth Mott: “My mom has beautiful flawless skin. Even in her 60’s she hardly has any sun spots or freckles. Her beauty secret is to always cover your face with a hat, even if you are wearing SPF, and to constantly moisturize.”

My mom’s beauty advice to me has always been “take care of your skin – it what will show your age or hide it. And, “whether you are going to the grocery store or a cocktail party, never be afraid to accentuate your lips.”

Andrea Iakovidis, Marketing Communications Associate at Total Beauty: “Growing up I had Frida Kahlo eyebrows and somehow I convinced myself that it was good luck to keep them that way – and so I did…for a long time. My mother’s best advice was to “pluck those eyebrows!” The day I did a ray of sunshine landed on my face. Lesson learned – sometimes the things we convince ourselves are right and not always so.”

"To this day, my mom insists on dark brown eyeliner (never black since it's too harsh), coral pink lipstick to brighten your skin, and to always remove makeup before going to bed."

When it comes to beauty advice, mama definitely knows best!

This Mother’s Day weekend, thank your mom for sharing her beauty advice…and for making you believe in your own. 🙂
