Feeling COOL while looking HOT…Tips on Sunscreen

spf30

It’s officially Summer (helloooo July 4th weekend), and while the temperatures keep rising all over the U.S., it’s important to stay cool and sun-safe.

ALWAYS wear sunscreen during the Summer even if you’re indoors. When purchasing any facial or body products with SPF, here’s what to keep in mind thanks to GCI Magazine.

The SPF of a sunscreen tells you 2 things: 1) How long you can stay in the Sun, and 2) How well the formula filters the sun’s ray.

  • For example, if you’re able to stay in the sun for 10 minutes without burning and the SPF of your sunscreen is 20, then your sunscreen will protect you for 200 minutes.
  • Here’s a quick cheat sheet on SPF coverage:

-SPF 2 blocks about 50% UVB rays
-SPF10 blocks 85%
-SPF 15 blocks 95%
-SPF 30 blocks 97%

  • Anything over SPF 30 provides minimal protection
  • Re-apply at least 2 hours especially if you go into the water

For INSTANT SUN RELIEF after a day under the sun, stash these beauty products in your fridge when you leave the house:

  • Face Cream: A chilled moisturizer feels incredible and instantly constricts the dilated blood vessels that cause redness
  • Aloe Gel: The quickest way to bring relief to sunburnt skin is to apply aloe gel so why not speed up the cooling process by keeping it chilled in your fridge?

Enjoy the summer and remember to stay cool!
