Beauty News Weekly Wrap-up: 2013 Color of the Year, Jonathan Adler & BareMinerals & More

Phew…it’s been a busy week in the beauty  industry!

Here’s a recap on the latest and greatest in the beauty biz:

Jonathan Adler & bareMinerals collabo: Merging beauty with home decor, Jonathan Adler has designed a limited-edition “Happiness by Design” set for BareMinerals.  The project marks two firsts—BareMinerals’s debut collaboration and Adler’s premiere foray into cosmetics. “I always say that I believe we’re all beautiful on the inside,” Adler told ELLE.com, “But you might as well do what you can on the outside. It was a joy to work with [Bare Escentuals and BareMinerals founder] Leslie Blodgett and her team, and I’m so pleased with how the product turned out.”

This fun little present is $60 and can be found at bareMinerals boutiques and bareMinerals.com, as well as Nordstrom and Ulta in February 2013.
Drew Barrymore launches Cosmetics Line: Drew Barrymore is launching her cosmetics line called “Flower” which also similarly shares the name of Barrymore’s production company, Flower Films . Launched with French manufacturer Maesa Group, Barrymore’s “Flower” will be sold exclusively at Wal-mart in early 2013

.

Barrymore’s exclusive Flower makeup line will feature aesthetic, white and rose gold packaging, with the line set to include mascara, loose powder and BB cream among other products in its lineup.

Flower is set to be the fist makeup brand exclusively created for Wal-Mart. According to vice president of beauty and personal care at Wal-Mart stores, Carmen Bauza, Flower fills a necessary void at Wal-Mart, that of the “aspirational, prestige product.  Mass has pretty much been doing the same thing over and over again,” she said.

Pantone chooses 2013 Color of the Year: Pantone announced Pantone 17-5641 Emerald, a lively, radiant, lush green, as the color of the year for 2013. Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and luxurious. Since antiquity, this hue has been a color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions. It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity—no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.

With this background, Sephora and Pantone are also announcing the Sephora + Pantone Universe 2013 Color of the Year beauty collection featuring Pantone 17-5641 Emerald, which will be available exclusively at Sephora in March 2013.  The limited edition 2013 Color of the Year beauty collection features a variety of products in Emerald, including eye shadow, nail polish and accessories, and will be available at Sephora stores across the U.S., Sephora inside JCP and Sephora.com.
