Stem Cell Face Cream – The Fountain of Youth?

We’ve all heard of fat grafting where fat is taken from your buttocks and injected as a filler into your lips.

Now how do you feel about using a face cream made of your own stem cells and DNA?

A company called Personal Cell Science, just launched a skincare collection called Autologous,  which uses your own adult stem cells. Autologous means taken from your own body and, just as the name suggests, a little bit of your own DNA will be in every drop.

The first three products are  Stem Cell Regenerative Firming Serum, Moisturizer, and Eye Cream. However, they don’t actually contain any stem cells since according to Natalia Drulle, the company’s creative director, “stem cells can’t actually survive in a topical cream”, she explains.

Developing a face cream with your own cell tissues takes time. The process begins at the office of a surgeon, where for $3,000, a quarter cup of fat is removed from your abdomen and sent to a lab. There, it’s cleansed of impurities and cultured with an enzyme that yields a stew of adult stem cells and related substances—growth factors, fibroblasts, cytokines—known as the Stromal Vascular Fraction. The adult stem cells are isolated in the processing lab and your stem cell sample is split into two parts, one is stored for future use and the other portion is cultured to create your very own “Autokine-CM™” unique anti-aging skin care suite hand blended with powerful supplementary ingredients.

Six weeks later, a technician removes several CCs of your personal brew from a frigid storage vat, mixes it into a base made up of emulsions rich in antioxidants, and ships it to you (or U, in the company’s parlance) in pump bottles.

The Monthly Regenerative Skin Care Suite, which includes the “U-Autologous” Firming Serum, Eye Cream and Moisturizer, costs $1,500, a savings if purchasing the set rather than the individual items and they are delivered every 28 days through the company’s automatic replenishment program.

The company’s claim’s are simple,  although when asked, the products are not FDA approved, falling under the cosmetic application, however, it was emphasized repeatedly that “U-Autologous” personalized adult stem cell suite “appears” to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Using one’s own growth cells over artificial cosmetic ingredients offers natural rejuvenating results to the skin.

In testing, the firming serum from the new line was used twice daily by 20 women, ages 25 to 60. The clinical data is impressive, with 95% of users seeing positive changes in the skin’s texture within four weeks, 81% experiencing a visible reduction of fine lines in four weeks and 87% noted a more youthful appearance during the same time frame.

So the question remains…have we finally discovered the fountain of youth?
