Beauty Biz News: Nicole Miller & Betsey Johnson Beauty Launches & L’Oreal/EPA Partnership
Here’s the latest news in the beauty industry!
Fashion designer, Nicole Miller, just launched a new skincare line aptly named Nicole Miller Beauty. This high-quality line of anti-aging skin care treatments, includes a cleanser, toner, serum and moisturizers. Formulated with only the finest ingredients, including antioxidants, they offer preventative and reparative care for your skin. Designed to address everyday hydration and brightening needs, Miller’s skincare collection was conceived in collaboration with longtime friend Dr. Cap Lesesne. Nicole Miller Beauty “We wanted to create something for women that wasn’t strictly for acne or strictly for anti-aging,” Lesesne said. “Having practiced medicine in New York City for almost 30 years, I know what damage can be caused by not using effective skin care.” As for Miller, who counts the Glow Serum ($65) as her favorite product, her best skin care prescription is simple and sound: “Use moisturizer religiously and never get a sunburn.” Now that is some stylish advice!
Speaking of stylish advice, super cool & cartwheel-loving fashion designer, Betsey Johnson, just launched a new nail collection for Sephora by OPI. The line, which is just as fashionable and fabulous as she is, consists of seven full-sized chip resistant nail polish shades – including the first-ever Sephora by OPI scented lacquer, a magenta hue that emits the aroma of her newest fragrance, Too Too. There is also a six-piece mini nail polish set, nail decals, and nail polish strips topped with super-cool prints.
When asked about her big reveal she said, “I am Too Too excited for my first nail collection with Sephora by OPI; the collection is just how I like it—loud, outrageous, pretty, pinky, and kickass rock and roll.”
L’Oreal recently announced a new partnership with the EPA in using fewer animals in cosmetics testing. The collaboration, which includes $1.2 million in research dollars from L’Oréal, will fund studies to compare existing animal-testing data against ToxCast, the EPA’s chemical toxicity database. If the results match up, it would lessen the amount of animal-based data scientists need to gather before bringing a new product to market. “It’s difficult to predict the complete end to animal testing,” admits Dr. David Dix, director of the EPA National Center for Computational Toxicology, but the news should give some comfort to those concerned about the use of animals to test makeup. Currently the EPA has data on 1,000 chemicals in its ToxCast database, and L’Oréal will provide its data on another 20 cosmetic chemicals. In the meantime, the European Union plans to phase out sales of all animal-tested cosmetics by 2013.
